The M1 Steel Helmet.
The classic M1 Helmet, being worn by the US army from 1941 until 1985. Here you can see the classic Mitchell Helmet cover and foliage band. on the helmet.

Primary Weapon.
The M16, specifically A1 varients with the 20 round magazines, are the primary rifle for the United States in Vietnam.
(Note this soldier has taped cleaning rods to the handguard for emergency use.)
3rd Pattern Jungle Shirt.
3rd pattern tropical uniform, jungle fatigues, this was the most popular uniform to US troops issued in the Vietnam war.
Belt Kit.
M56 Webbing would be the current issue for all troops in Vietnam. It is designed to sustain a soldier for 24 hours without replenishment.
In addition to his webbing, he is wearing an M16 Magazine Bandolier for extra ammunition.

What about a sidearm?
If you limit your rifles to under 370fps / 1.27j you wont need a side arm, and this will allow you to storm enemy positions up close an personal. A rubber bayonet is far more effective than your rifle at such close quarters.
Can I use Officer kit? ?
We would NOT recommend coming to an event as an Officer or NCO. These roles are reserved for crew and people in command appointments.
